3-day trip Antwerp

Three-day coach trip to Antwerp with a variety of architecture and art! Antwerp, a cosy and atmospheric city and at the same time a port giant on the water. Art historians Yvonne Hilgenkamp and Hanneke Lenders will be happy to take you into the city's past as well as the modern era.

We will travel by bus to Antwerp. There, we start by visiting the extraordinary Middelheim sculpture park where modern sculptures are displayed in a beautiful green setting. Hanneke will take you around the old city centre to visit the OLV Cathedral and the Carolus Borromeus Church, among others. While Yvonne takes you to the Eilandje, an old harbour neighbourhood north of the old city centre. Repurposed warehouses (Felix, Red Starline) alternate here with modern new buildings, such as Neutelings Riedijk's iconic Museum aan de Stroom (MAS) and, of course, the spectacular Havenhuis: an old fire station with Zaha Hadid's diamond-like extension. Finally, we also visit Antwerp South, where Hanneke will show you around the Royal Museum of Art, which reopened last year after a thorough renovation to plans by Rotterdam-based KAAN architects. The collection (14th to 20th centuries) features works by artists such as Van Eyck, Rubens, Van Dijck and Jordaens, Ensor and Van Rijsselberghe. Today, Yvonne will take you to Nieuw Zuid, where on the banks of the Scheldt, on the sites of the former Antwerp-Zuid freight station, an ultra-modern new city district is being built, including projects such as Richard Rogers' 'Butterfly Palace' and the new Provinciehuis by the Belgian bureau of Xaveer de Geyter.
