In this 6-day trip to Rome, you will visit Europe's art historical treasury with art historians Hanneke Lenders & Yvonne Hilgenkamp. We visit Rome in 2025, so in the special Jubilee year! What city in Europe lends itself better to an art history visit than Rome? It is the city where all of Western art history is there for the taking. From Roman Emperors, early Christianity, the Renaissance and the Baroque and great figures like Emperor Constantine, Michelangelo, Raphael, Bernini and Caravaggio. You will find Roman temples, the earliest Christian basilicas, the Papacy and the Counter-Reformation. In 6 days, Hanneke & Yvonne take you along all these important things from art history. Apart from the well-known highlights such as St Peter's, the Colosseum and the Pantheon, you will especially visit the lesser-known, but beautiful and intriguing places of Rome.
The programme includes (still subject to change): Santa Maria Maggiore, Santa Prassede, SS. Quattro Coronati, Santa Maria della Vittoria, San Clemente, Forum Romanum, Palatine, some museums including Vatican Museums with Sistine Chapel and Stanze of Raphael, Galleria Borghese, San Clemente, Il Gesù, St Peter's, Pantheon, Trastevere, Catacombs Priscilla.
N.B. There will be a lot of walking during this trip, participants should take this into account. There is room on this trip for a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 34 participants. The trip is organised in cooperation with Labrys Reizen and will be led by two art historians Hanneke Lenders and Yvonne Hilgenkamp. The group will be split into two regularly. You will then spend part of the day with Hanneke and part with Yvonne.
