Modern art

N.B. This course is taught in Dutch.
This Modern Art online course introduces you to modern art of the early 20th century. Do you find modern art inaccessible? My little sister can do that too? After taking this course, you will probably think very differently! We delve into the exciting and experimental movements that drastically changed visual art in the early twentieth century. New developments followed in rapid succession and we follow them closely. We start at the late 19th century with realism, impressionism and go through post-impressionism all the way to abstract art up to WWII. All the in-between -isms and movements pass by: cubism, futurism, dadaism, De Stijl, suprematism, abstract expressionism, etc.

By the end of the course, you will know their main characteristics and be able to distinguish between them! Teacher Karlijn de Jong is a specialist in Dutch modern art (including Sluijters, Toorop, Willink and Koch) and will pay special attention to them in the last lesson.

Reviews of this course

I enjoyed the modern art course. It was a fascinating overview and in which I was able to discover artists unknown to me as well. It taught me to look at modern art in a different way. Karlijn de Jong has a very pleasant, relaxed way of telling stories and a fine presentation. Her lessons were packed with information but with the handout and possibility to look back, it was easy to follow.
