This year marks exactly 100 years since Antoni Gaudí died. Barcelona is celebrating with the Gaudí year. And in this online lecture, lecturer Yvonne Hilgenkamp also pays attention to this exceptional architect and shows you why his work still evokes so much admiration.

Organic shapes, colourful mosaics, ornate wrought ironwork, a fairytale style and surprising ornaments make Gaudí's architecture instantly recognisable. His buildings sometimes seem to have grown rather than been built. With his unique style, he gave an entirely individual face to Catalan modernism, the local variant of Art Nouveau that radically changed and livened up Barcelona around 1900.

Lesser-known projects are also covered, such as the colourful Casa Vicens. So you get a complete picture of his innovative vision of architecture. You will be introduced to other important architects of Catalan modernism, such as Josep Puig i Cadafalch and Lluís Domènech i Montaner. Together, they contributed to Barcelona's unique and vibrant cityscape.
