Art USA: American art

Isn't it refreshing to look at the United States from a different angle: art history! In this course Art USA: American art online, Yvonne Hilgenkamp will review some 250 years of visual art of the United States. We will start with the declaration of independence and go from there to Edward Hopper. We see landscape painters and Impressionists (Mary Cassat and Merrit Chase), among others. Then we dive into the 20th century with paintings of the big city and industry and the countryside (Norman Rockwell, Grant Wood and Georgia O'Keeffe). From there, we move to abstraction (Rothko, Pollock, De Kooning) and to Coca-Cola, Hamburgers and Marilyn with PopArt (Warhol, Lichtenstein). We round off with the last decades with minimal art, sculptures and installations (Louise Bourgeois, James Turell), street art (Herring, Basquiat), hyperrealist art (Duane Hanson and Chuck Close) and finally African-American art with Barkley Hendricks, Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald, among others.

Reviews of this course

I really loved Yvonne's course. It remains amazing the way she can convey everything with enthusiasm. She even got me excited about modern architecture which I thought was not my preference. And it's especially nice that I can take the course just from home. I will definitely take more courses from Yvonne.
