8 Artists

N.B. This course is taught in Dutch.

In art history, certain artists are more famous than others. Why, really? What makes that particular artist so famous and important? In this course, we will take a closer look at 8 important artists. Each lesson we will discuss the work of a specific artist, but most importantly, you will learn more about the period in which these artists lived, the style or grouping they were part of or why they have been so important to art history.

The artists addressed successively are:

  1. Bernini and the art of the Baroque
  2. The anonymous masters of the Byzantine Empire
  3. Le Corbusier and functionalism
  4. Monet and impressionism
  5. Jan van Eyck and the Flemish Primitives
  6. Mondrian, de Stijl and geometric-abstract art
  7. Rembrandt and the Golden Age
  8. Salvador Dalì and Surrealism
